Horary 6: Perfection — How a Yes Is Built

The direct case is simple: the two significators apply to an aspect, it perfects, the matter comes to pass. What makes horary an art rather than a lookup is everything the tradition worked out about the cases where they do not meet — and those cases are the majority.

1. Direct perfection

The significators apply to each other and complete the aspect before either leaves its sign. That is a yes. The nature of the aspect describes the manner: a trine or sextile is easy, a square or opposition happens with friction and cost, a conjunction is the most complete and the least negotiable.

The tradition is clear that a square perfecting is still a yes. Beginners routinely read hard aspects as no, and they are not — they are yes, the hard way.

2. Translation of light

The significators do not aspect each other. A third, faster planet separates from one and applies to the other, carrying the light between them.

This is the intermediary: the friend who introduces you, the agent, the recruiter, the mutual acquaintance who mentions your name. Translation is very common in real charts and it describes something real — matters that come to pass through somebody else’s involvement.

Look at what the translating planet is and where it sits. It will describe the intermediary with uncomfortable accuracy.

3. Collection of light

Both significators apply to a third, slower planet, which is dignified and receives them both. It gathers the two and the matter completes through it.

This is the arbiter rather than the introducer: the manager who has to sign off, the court, the parent, the institution. Collection needs the collecting planet to be strong — a debilitated collector cannot hold the matter together, which is itself a readable statement about the arbiter.

4. Perfection by antiscia or the Moon’s next aspect

Weaker testimonies, worth knowing and not worth leaning on. If the main methods produce nothing, the honest answer is usually that nothing comes of the matter — not that you should hunt for a mechanism that says yes.

Worked example: a translation

Question: will the flat be let to the querent? Aquarius rising, so the querent is Saturn, at 6° Aquarius in the 1st. The property is the 4th — Taurus — so Venus, at 20° Taurus.

Saturn and Venus are square by sign, and the square has already perfected: Venus is much the faster body and has moved past it. There is no applying contact between the significators. On the direct method: no.
