Nobody decides to watch your reel. They decide not to scroll past it — a decision made in under two seconds, based almost entirely on your first line. That first line is the hook, and it’s not a nicety: it’s 80% of your reach. Here are twenty that work, ready to fill in.

Curiosity hooks
- “The [placement] nobody warns you about…”
- “Your chart has a hidden [talent/pattern] — here’s where to look.”
- “Why [sign] season feels different this year.”
- “There’s a reason you keep attracting [pattern]. It’s in your chart.”
- “Astrologers check THIS before anything else.”
Callout hooks (name the viewer)
- “If you’re a [sign] rising, stop scrolling.”
- “POV: your Moon is in [sign] and everyone calls you [trait].”
- “This is for everyone with [placement] who’s tired of [struggle].”
- “[Sign] friends — tag yourselves and confirm.”
- “You have a stellium and don’t know what it means. 60 seconds, let’s fix that.”
Contrarian hooks
- “Unpopular opinion: [common astro belief] is wrong.”
- “Stop being afraid of [retrograde/placement]. Here’s what it actually does.”
- “Your Sun sign is the least interesting thing about your chart.”
- “Everything TikTok told you about [topic] misses the point.”
- “[Sign] is NOT [stereotype] — and the real story is better.”
Value hooks
- “3 things your [house] placement explains about your [life area].”
- “How to find your [point] in 30 seconds — no jargon.”
- “Read any chart with these 3 questions.”
- “The 60-second temperament test hiding in your chart.”
- “Save this for the next [event] — you’ll need it.”
Three rules that upgrade any hook
- Say it AND show it: the hook belongs in the spoken first line and the on-screen text — most viewers start muted.
- Cut the greeting: “hey guys, welcome back” is where reach goes to die. First frame = hook, nothing before it.
- Pay the promise: a hook is a debt. If the payoff underdelivers, the algorithm learns your hooks lie — and so does your audience.
Try it yourself
Take your best-performing past post and refilm it with three different hooks from this list. Same content, three openers — post across a week and compare. You’re not testing content; you’re testing doors.

Worked example: same content, six openings
The video is about the chart ruler. The content does not change; only the first three seconds do, and that is what decides whether anyone sees the rest.
